True Home Theater Installation

Home Theater setups come in all shapes and sizes. Many homes don’t take audio design into consideration, so many people will pay thousands of dollars and only get a mediocre system. I offer a Theater Room Consultation service where we can go over 100% of your options to improve audio in your space.

There of course are always compromises, but doing just a little bit of planning can make equipment work together to give you the best possible audio for your space. Below I’ll go over some of the different areas I will work with you to help get the most out of your system.

Speaker Placement

Whether your want to do two speakers or twenty, speaker placement is one of the most important parts for your spatial resolution. Placement is a combination of distance, horizontal location, and angles to your optimal listening location.

First is the distance of the listening area from the surrounding speakers and walls. If speakers are too close, they are nearly impossible to isolate, and wall reflections become particularly harsh. The best setups will be a minimum of 4 feet from surrounding walls/speakers.

Next physical placement of speakers takes into account many of your seating and room conditions. The best placement for front, center and surround speakers are as close to ear level as possible, though there are ways to work around high seat backs, or no speaker locations available.

This also plays into how many speakers you will physically have. Smaller rooms or rooms where seating is close to the rear wall, will likely have fewer speakers. Larger rooms, and rooms where the TV or Projector screen is large will get significantly more speakers.

Room Treatments

Setting up speakers isn’t the only thing that is important for a truly great home theater system, having good audio response from the room itself will greatly improve the audio.

The first step is controlling those first reflections, this requires taking very specific measurements and installing acoustic paneling. Now in a Livingroom or family room, acoustic paneling isn’t always atheistically appealing, luckily custom canvas prints can be made to improve the visual athstetics of treatments.

Lowering the noise floor of the room (the amount of ambient noise inside the room) is also important. This can be things like moving electronics and appliances out of the room, things like fans, amplifiers, vacuums, and even lights should all be looked at to see if they can silenced or relocated. This helps greatly with the dynamic range of the audio, allowing you to hear those tiny changes in tone. Even going so far as adding insulation into the walls can go a long way here.

System Tuning

All of the above will make a system really stand out, but to really dial it in, equipment should be calibrated. Every speaker model has a different wave pattern, and sending the right audio to the correct speaker is very important. Ensuring that all the speakers a pointed appropriately, leveled, timed, and crossovers set appropriately.

Speakers

  • In-Ceiling Speakers
Get great audio without the eyesore of large speakers ruining that clean look.
  • In-Wall Speakers
Benefit from better audio fidelity with the speakers being closer to ear level, but keep that clean look.
  • Wireless Speakers
Brands like Sonos and Roku have made multi zone audio throughout the home easy, without a super expensive installation from running new wires all over in attics and walls.
  • Floor Speakers
True audiophiles will want a speaker that can reproduce every nuance of sound without any distortion. Floor speakers generally come with an assortment of speaker sizes built in to make that perfect audio space.

Amplifiers

  • AV Receiver
If you have a TV, Projector, or any type of video devices, you need a Receiver to handle all of the audio for your theater system. I stock all of the best brands and can make the right recommendation for your system.
  • Amps
If you have multiple zones of audio, usually a receiver alone is not enough. Each Zone should have it’s own amplifier to make sure you have the highest quality audio.

Acessories

  • Volume Control
Whether it is a Volume knob, or a digital controller, making sure that your audio plays at the right level in each zone is important.
  • Speaker Selector
If you have too many speakers for a single amplifier, a speaker selector is a must. These make sure to protect both your amplifier and speakers while also giving you a top notch audio experience.
  • Banana Plugs
Make adjustments and replacements for your system easy, using banana plugs or wall plates for your system.
  • Universal Remotes
It is no secret that audio systems can become quite complex. Purchasing a macro based Universal remote can drastically help simplify any system.
